The Apostle Paul begins to admonish us in the beginning of chapter twelve in the book of Romans, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Of course there are so many areas I could focus upon in these two scriptures, but for today’s blog I want to focus in on the ‘transformed’ part. If there is anything we have learned, not only during this challenge, but in life itself is how easy it is to be conformed to this world. The world is set up to easily be conformed to. As I have written in past blogs, the world is user-friendly. Most everything we deal with in this modern age has been created with one thing in mind, convenience. To make access to life’s routines as easy and convenient as possible. Though this is not necessarily a bad thing, the problem rest not necessarily upon the technology as it does within our own natures. What first becomes a help quickly descends into a dependency. From fast food to smart phones, we easily meld into a system with a passive consent. Then, before too long, we find ourselves bound and addicted to the same technology that was supposed to free us.

If we have learned anything during this challenge, hopefully we have learned what a powerful hold the world has upon our lives. The struggle to leave the entangling grasp of convenience has been a continual battle. From day one we have had to fight and claw our way toward our goal. Conformity is easy. The true conflict comes when you decide to pry yourself out of the world’s clutches.  Transformation is not easy. The root word of transformed is ‘metamorphosis’. Metamorphosis is a profound change of form or nature of the life history of an organism. It is “a complete change of form, structure, or substance.” The greatest natural example of metamorphosis can be found in the caterpillar. What seems like a life of earthly living, the caterpillar goes through an incredible transformation called a metamorphosis. As we all know, this transformation is completely hidden within a cocoon of darkness. Behind it’s cocooned walls and wrapped within this darkness, somehow, someway, the earthly caterpillar is forever changed into a heavenly butterfly. The once bound to a few flowers of nearby convenience the caterpillar can now fly from flower to flower to flower.

Believe it or not, such is a picture of us. As we begin to understand the gravitational pulls our old world has had upon us, we too have begun to undergo a transformation or should I say a metamorphosis. Deep within the darkness of our minds, we are working to pull away from the negativity of comfort and convenience. We are no longer allowing ourselves to be shaped by fad diets, fast foods, and the easy gimmicks of deliverance. In the trenches of this warfare, we are taking our lives and our health back into our own hands. Knowing one day we too shall break through the walls of bad habits and into the sunshine of a lifestyle of healing and wholeness. To no longer to be grounded by our appetites but to forever break free from the chains of our strongholds and to finally step up and out of our self-made cocoons into a life of power and freedom. Hang on and don’t quit now! Our transformation is COMING!
